How Do Prepayment Sub Meters Work?
A prepayment sub meter is designed to mimic the main incoming meter to the building, this allows Landlord's to separate the supply of electric to each tenanted property ensuring equal and fair payment for electric used.
Sub meters can be configured to specific settings such as tariff rates, price per unit and standing charge. Sub meters are designed to proxy the main incoming meter to the building allowing landlords to divide property's from Residential House's into HMO's and Break Up Large Industrial units into smaller commercial units.
It is good to note that a prepayment sub meter becomes the responsibility of the Landlord to collect payments and pay the main electricity bill for each main meter, there are many different types of prepayment meter from Coin Meters, RFID Card Meters, Online Portal Top Up Meters, STS pay point meters etc... Each meter type comes with its own top up system so its always best to ensure you are familiar with the topup type and make sure your tenants are comftable with how tops ups are made.
